Happy New Year!

WEEKLY COMMUNICATION PLEASE READ!

2020 is upon us! As we celebrate the start of the New Year and New Decade the wrestling season really starts to ramp up.  As we move into January we start our OCC Thursday night duals, in addition to our weekend tournaments. We have talked to our wrestlers about the importance of discipline as it relates to their sleep schedule and their weight management please help remind them of this at home.

Coach's Gratitude-
New Years always brings about a sense of reflection of the past year and excitement for what is to come.  I am grateful for those young men and women in our program who chose to make wrestling to be a part of their lives. This week we talked about what it means to choose to be a wrestler and what makes being a wrestler different. As coaches and wrestlers we are excited go into 2020 “chasing” the best version of ourselves.

Wrestling Recap

The Brecksville Holiday tournament is one of the toughest tournaments on our schedule, as coaches we want to seek out the best competition possible so we can get a true evaluation of where our team is in December; I often think of this as a midterm of our season. As coaches we want to make sure that we don’t make excuses for our results.  Wrestling has a way of revealing truth, sure there are upsets in all sports but for the most part wrestling shows you exactly where you are on that day, it shows you what you need to work on. Our coaches are excited to keep working.

Parent Corner
Successful teams are aligned top to bottom, from coach to athlete, to parents at home. This year we have worked to try to keep you informed of what is going on in our program, but I want to further include you as stakeholders into some of our program’s philosophies.  One of those is to avoid “bracket watching”. We have talked to our team about just controlling what you can control. There is a great deal of evidence that when you spend time looking up who you wrestle or what their accomplishments are it impacts the way you wrestle.  The thing we can control is our own preparation, effort, attitude, and skill development. We can not control the person across the mat from us. This is still a work in progress for our coaches and athletes, please help us in this area. As parents we know you are invested in your wrestler, please refrain from giving them information about who they are about to wrestle, what their accomplishments are, or what they are “ranked”.  We believe the best version of our team is the one that is focused on our team.

Watching Video
Our wrestling stats are again using Matboss to record our matches throughout the season.  Each wrestler should be able to log on to their account. If they have not created their account the will need the team code IHKFN3

Home Events
We have two home events coming up, our Middle School Tournament and our Youth tournament, your help is needed in the concession stand. Remember by working these events you earn credit for your wrestlers summer camps and other wrestling opportunities.
