January is a grind!

WEEKLY COMMUNICATION PLEASE READ!

Coach's Gratitude-
This past weekend was quite a challenge but all of you made it look easy to those on the outside.  I am so grateful to have families who are so willing to give of their time. From supporting our wrestlers who were competing, to setting up the tournament, working concessions, selling apparel, helping clean up.  Your help is so valuable and we appreciate it as a program. Additionally to our wrestlers who worked the MS tournament or competed on Saturday and then came in and officiated for our youth tournament, it was truly a k-12 program weekend.  We like to host events first and foremost to showcase what our Marysville wrestlers can do in their home gym, and second to raise funds for our program. Your help allowed us to do both.

Wrestling Recap

This past weekend we had wrestlers competing in three different events.  We had Varsity wrestlers competing at Dublin Scioto, Girls at Olentangy Orange, and JV at St. Charles, I feel strongly that we learned something about ourselves at all three tournaments.

Dublin Scioto is a good representative of central Ohio Talent, its is a great opportunity for our wrestlers who may have missed an event or can’t quite break through the Varsity Line up.
Placers
138 Josh Melms 3rd
220 Joey Palmer 3rd
170 Christian McCartney 8th

Our girls team had the chance to compete in one of the first all girls tournaments in Ohio.  We were able to field 6 out of the 14 weight classes and still came away with a 3rd place team finish.  All 6 of our girls reached the semi-finals, and all 6 placed in the top 3.
2nd Place finishers Madison Sharp and Destiny Fry
3rd Place finishers Emma Swart, Maddie Adelsberger, Laila Oribello and Cali Leng

Our JV team took that mat at St. Charles to gain valuable mat time.
Placers

1st place Alton Dobyns
2nd Place Zach Pfarr, Emilio Guerrero, Austin Romine
3rd Place Jack Blumberg
4th Place Cole Pombert

Parent Corner
I hope you hear your wrestler talk about “chasing” something.  It's a phrase we are using to try to encourage them to pursue improvement.   It is something that has defined our wrestling program in the past. The idea that individuals were chasing, state titles, state placement, state qualification, district qualification, being in the starting line up etc. Our coaches feel like we are not chasing the way we need to.  I encourage you to talk to you wrestler about their goals, what do they want to get out of this season. Support them in doing the extra that not only helps in reaching their destination but also helps build the confidence and self belief required to compete as a wrestler.

January is a Grind
Our January is a brutal competition month, but the belief is it will have us ready for the final push of the season.  When we look at the next four weeks we compete
Thurs/Fri
Thurs/Fri/Sat
Thurs/Fri/Sat
Thurs/Fri
This means every minute of practice in January is invaluable please make sure your wrestler is committed to being there and being the best version of themselves.

Watching Video
Our wrestling stats are again using Matboss to record our matches throughout the season.  Each wrestler should be able to log on to their account. If they have not created their account the will need the team code IHKFN3

Competition Schedule
As we begin the dual schedule it is important for parents to know that especially in JV matches we are limited to the other teams rosters.  While we certainly want every kid to have the chance to compete we don’t have any control over what other teams have available on those given evenings.
