Monarchs defend home mat

Tonight was a good team win, I was proud of our team up and down the line up.  Going into the dual we knew UA had a solid dual team and that every point was going to matter, the final score doesn't show how close the dual could have been. The dual started at 106 where Madison Sharp fought hard the whole time to not give up the pin and keep UA to a Tech Fall.  At 113 Nate Thompson didn't stop wrestling event though he was down on the scoreboard and ended up pinning Beam from UA, at 120 Josh Melms continued to rack up takedowns to earn a major decision.  Tyler Winfield  lost a hard fought 6-2 decision to state placer Mitch Herren.  Tracen Cooper added to the bonus points with a pin at 132, and Jack Golla added to the win column with a victory over State Qualifier Jesse Bowers.

We knew going into the dual we were going to have to bump our line up around to get the best match ups, Lincoln Heard bumped to 145 where he lost a close 4-2 match with State Alternate Joey Orlando, Erryl Will battled back in the third period but came up short vs Pearson of UA.  At 160 Blayne Landon got the fall, Walker Heard continued his winning ways with a major decision at 170.  Zach Lowe got out to a big lead at 182 but UA  came back in the match to win 14-10.  The Monarchs closed out the dual with big bonus point wins.  Logan Painter (195), and Jagger Snyder (220) with Pins and Ethan Smegal with the fft. at 285.

Our team is in for another busy weekend, we are in two varsity tournaments at the Sally George (Marion Pleasant) and Watkins Memorial and our JV are at Whitehall.

Next week we will host the Region 5 Dual tournament on Saturday Feb 2nd
